My name is Shane (Seung Ya) Kang, a South Korean scriptwriter, filmmaker and narrative designer based in Berlin, Germany. There is a custom that folding one thousand paper cranes will make a wish come true. My wish was to create stories that resonate and connect, offend and lacerate, vex and perplex.

I didn’t have the tenacity to fold the thousand cranes, so instead I took my wish into my own hands. Any choice that brought me closer to telling stories, I was making them regardless of where I was – in Germany, South Korea, or Vietnam.

My projects deal with sex, intimacy and loneliness, and our perpetual struggle to find peace with and within ourselves. Each of them was a labor of love, strenuous as folding a million, billion paper cranes. That’s how you will find me now, folding one crane at a time.
